Homeless Man Assaulted
A homeless man sustained significant injuries Tuesday night when he was attacked by a man wielding a baseball bat.
The victim, a 36-year-old homeless man, was found by Lawrenceburg Police Officers sitting on the porch of a Debus Street home around 8:30 Tuesday evening. Officers report that the man had sustained a large cut on his nose, and that he was unable to see out of one eye.
Officers noted in their report that a large amount of blood surrounded the victim on the porch.
The victim told officers that Eddie Dean Staggs, 38, of 7310 Henryville Road, Summertown, had “caught him” walking down the street, and began striking him in the face with a baseball bat.
The victim received medical assistance from members of the Lawrence County Ambulance Service, and was transported to Crockett Hospital for more extensive medical attention.
Officers confronted Staggs about the assault at a home on First Street. He reportedly denied attacking the victim.
As a result of the investigation, a warrant was obtained, charging Staggs with the crime of aggravated assault.
